Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how Unspoken works, what it costs, and how we protect your privacy.
Unspoken is an AI-powered relationship tool that helps couples communicate what they can't say out loud. Each partner takes a private assessment based on 40+ years of Gottman research, and our AI analyzes both perspectives to reveal where you click, where you clash, and how to bridge the gap — without either partner having to perform for the other.
Each partner answers a 50-question assessment privately — your partner never sees your individual responses. The questions measure Attunement across five research-backed dimensions: Signals (bids for connection), Repair (how you recover from rupture), Inner World (emotional curiosity about each other), Shared Future (alignment on life direction), and Safe Ground (trust and vulnerability). It takes about 15 minutes. Once both partners complete it, our AI generates a compatibility report with your Attunement score, prediction gaps, love-language mirror, and personalized recommendations.
Your raw individual answers are not shown to your partner. Shared reports and exercise insights synthesize patterns from both people's responses, so they can reflect concerns and preferences you each describe. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. You can export your data or request account deletion in settings; processing and retention details are in our Privacy Policy.
The couples report leads with your Attunement score — how deeply in sync you are across Signals, Repair, Inner World, Shared Future, and Safe Ground. You get a deep-dive per dimension, prediction gaps (what each of you guessed about the other and got wrong), a love-language mirror, drift signals, unspoken themes the AI noticed, and this week's five conversation starters. Both partners get access to the full report — one person pays and both are included.
The individual assessment is completely free — you get your Attunement score and a Signals preview. The full couples report (deep-dive per dimension, prediction gaps, love-language mirror, drift signals, five conversation starters) is a one-time payment of $4.99 (both partners included). Guided exercises are $9.99/month (both partners included, cancel anytime) and include unlimited Cool-Downs — in-the-moment help when a disagreement is heating up; every couple's first 2 Cool-Downs are free. One person pays — your partner is always included at no extra cost.
Guided exercises are weekly, structured activities tailored to your specific friction points. Each partner responds privately through AI-guided prompts, and Unspoken bridges the gap between your perspectives. You get personalized insights drawn from both profiles, monthly progress tracking, and exercises that evolve as your relationship grows. Think of it as ongoing relationship maintenance — not crisis management.
No. Unspoken is a relationship communication tool, not a substitute for professional therapy. Think of it as preventive care for your relationship — the space between 'everything is fine' and 'we need professional help.' If anything serious or unsafe comes up, pause the exercise and contact emergency services, a crisis line, or a licensed professional in your area. Unspoken is building a therapist directory, but it is not open yet. We're transparent about our boundaries.
Couples counseling requires scheduling, committing to sessions, and talking through issues together in real time — which is valuable but not always accessible. Unspoken works differently: we talk to each of you separately and privately, then bridge the gap between your perspectives. Instead of you trying to explain your needs to your partner in the moment, our AI translates your feelings into language they can hear. It's available 24/7, costs a fraction of a therapy session, and can work alongside professional counseling if you choose.
You can request account deletion in your settings and export your data as JSON first. Deletion removes your account and associated application data; anonymous aggregate analytics may remain. Service-provider retention and legal exceptions are described in our Privacy Policy.
The individual assessment is still valuable on its own — you'll get insights into your own communication style, attachment type, and conflict patterns. You can invite your partner whenever they're ready (there's no deadline), and the invitation is gentle and pressure-free. Many partners come around once they see how thoughtful and non-judgmental the process is. But even without them, you'll walk away understanding yourself better.
Each invite link can only be used once, so if someone accepted it before you, you'll see an error when you try to submit your assessment. Don't worry — your completed assessment is saved and won't be lost. Here's how to fix it: ask your partner to go to Settings → Partner and click 'Disconnect partner' to clear the wrong connection. They can then send you a fresh invite from their Dashboard. Once you receive the new link, your saved assessment will be linked automatically when you use it.
